Rust is King at Restoration and Classic Car Show
Rust was king over the weekend as clubs, restorers, sellers and auction houses drew thousands to the NEC in Birmingham for the Practical Classics Restoration and Classic Car Show.
Although a relatively new show it already feels well established, with many of the major car clubs exhibiting their restorations in progress – or those due to start. Some even brought the shiny stuff to show what the results can be.
Meanwhile, Silverstone Auctions were in action to auction off a range of home-grown and exotic classics, from tired and forgotten cars, to some exquisite and less ‘affordable’ machines.
Raising money for charity, Sporting Bears were doing a sterling job allowing people to pay for very special rides in owners’ cars, from today’s supercars, to some super rare classics – including the legendary Jaguar D-Type.
On the live stage various classic car celebrities and the guys from Practical Classics were entertaining all. They even gave themselves the mission of restoring a TV icon over the weekend – the famous Reliant Supervan of Trotters Independent Traders from Only Fools and Horses.
Amongst the tool companies and restoration bits, demonstrations were put on to help budding restorers learn key skills in the art of metalwork, for use on their own projects.
Yet again we managed to get away without accidentally buying any projects, but we’re certain many others will now be embarking on new restorations over the next year as a result of this show.
If you couldn’t make it yourself, we’ve put together a small sample of what the show had to offer.
