Ex-Works Press TR2 up for Sale

Classic Triumph TR2Triumph TR2 interiorSilverstone Auctions will be offering a 1955 Ex-works press demonstrator Triumph TR2 through their auction at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, held at the NEC on 15th and 16th November.

This immaculately restored classic roadster is an important part of British motor heritage, playing a vital role in building the successful name for the TR range.

Triumph TR2 engineHaving been restored to a very high standard a few years ago, this fabulous classic is still an absolute show stopper, with a complete re-trim in red leather, a superb paint finish and a completely solid chassis.

Estimates for the car are £30,000 to £35,000. However, with some less famous TR2 cars going for £30,000-40,000, we expect the hammer to drop at something a little above the estimate.

Triumph TR2 at auctionThe Triumph TR2, introduced in 1953, gave Triumph the ability to successfully compete against main rival MG and gave a new income from American exports. Although only produced from 1953 to 1955, when it was replaced by the TR3, the TR2 spawned a new line of successful sporting roadsters and a number of successes in competition.

If it wasn’t for the TR2 the host of other classic Triumph cars may have been a very different landscape. Therefore, this particular model embodies the absolute spirit of the TR2 - being the show piece that had the job of making or breaking the TR range. Luckily it did its job well.
