Ari Vatanen to Make Race Retro Debut in February

Former World Champion and all-round rallying legend Ari Vatanen is set to take centre stage at the 2015 Race Retro, to be held at Stoneleigh Park, Coventry, from the 20th-22nd February, as he makes his show debut.

Vatanen will be on hand on the Saturday and Sunday at the show, taking part in an interviews live on stage, as well as being reunited with two of his rally cars – the Rothmans Ford Escort and an Opel Manta 400 – on the Live Rally Stage where he will showcase his rally driving skills.

Ari was one of the best-known rally drivers of the 1980s, starring for Peugeot at the wheel of a 205 T16, and was on course to win the 1985 World Championship until a near-fatal accident in Argentina ended his season and nearly his life. The Finn recovered to return to the sport winning four Paris-Dakar Rallies in 1987, 1989, 90 and 91.

Vatanen became synonymous with Peugeot, especially the 205 and this year’s Race Retro will also celebrate the life of another rally driver who began his career at the wheel of a Peugeot – Richard Burns.

2015 will be the tenth anniversary of his passing and, to mark the occasion, the Richard Burns Foundation will be bring his rally-winning 205 and 309 GTIs to Race Retro. They’ll be joined by his 1992 Group N Subaru Impreza as well as the 2001 World Rally Championship Impreza.

Adult tickets for Race Retro, sponsored by Peter James & Stewart Miller Insurance, start at £20 in advance with children’s tickets at £5 for Friday and Saturday and free on Sunday. Car parking is free. The show is open from 9.30am each day and closes at 5.30pm on Friday and Saturday and 4.30pm on Sunday. To book tickets visit
